Proper Care and Maintenance of your Home Spa

BY: Sapphire Pools of Texas / 0 COMMENTS / CATEGORIES: Spa Services

Surely there is no better way to wind down, and relax at the end of a long, hard day than by immersing yourself in your beautiful home spa. Certainly the stress you have to deal with in your career life can be overwhelming, but relaxing and enjoying the soothing bubbles in your hot tub is one sure fire way of making all that unwanted stress go away. Following a routine maintenance schedule, is important to the upkeep of your home spa and to keeping it looking beautiful, refreshed, and clean. The therapy you gain when immersed in your hot tub is something you do not want to lose out on, especially when you need it most, which is why it is so important to keep your hot tub in perfect condition so you are able to use it whenever the need arises.

One of the biggest concerns that come into play with your hot tub maintenance is the quality of the water. Here at Sapphire Pools and Spas we recommend you test the pH levels of your spa water each day before use. If you find that the reading does not fall within the appropriate 7.2-7.6 range, then it is necessary to add pH increaser if it is too low, or a pH decreaser if the reading is too high. Follow the instructions on the container closely in order to bring the water pH level balance to a healthy and safe level.

Another maintenance concern is that of hygiene. For the purposes of hygiene and for your overall safety it is highly recommended that you change the water in your hot tub at minimum every four months. In addition, you want to be certain to shock the water weekly with an oxidizing element. Each of these maintenance tasks is essential to the overall health and well-being of not only your home spa but your own health as well.

Further maintenance tips include cleaning the vinyl cover of your spa regularly. Typically it is a good practice to clean the cover each month with a specialized cleaner, making certain to wipe the cleaning solution off thoroughly. You may also want to clean the shell of your hot tub monthly as well, but be certain that you do not use harmful cleaning products, but rather specific cleaning products that are designed for the care and maintenance of hot tubs. Utilizing other household cleaning solutions or agents can certainly cause grave harm to your hot tub shell.

Another very important routine maintenance task is that of cleaning the filter cartridges. There are a variety of products you can use to accomplish this task, but here at Sapphire Pools and Spas we recommend the use of a spray cleaner for your filter cartridges. It is best to clean your filters monthly and we also advise that you have a spare set of filter cartridges always on hand so as to avoid any downtime with your home spa.

Finally, we also suggest that you clean and maintain your entire spa area or room, removing any type of dirt, grime or debris from the immediate area. You want to keep the air circulating in and out of your spa area or room and to maintain a fresh scent and aroma. Scented candles are always a great choice for adding a freshness to the air as well as a comforting and therapeutic atmosphere.

If you are, however, like many other home spa owners who simply do not have the time to maintain your hot tub, then surely you have come to the right place. Here at Sapphire Pools and Spas we are equipped to provide you with all the routine maintenance you need to keep your luxury spa up and running at all times. We offer a variety of maintenance service packages and are sure you will find the ideal package for your individual spa needs. Contact our professionals today and let us give you the peace of mind you need to know that whenever stress and a hectic pace are weighing you down, you can always count on the comfort and therapy of your home spa.

BY: Sapphire Pools of Texas / 0 COMMENTS / CATEGORIES: Pool, Pool Maintenance

Well, spring is right around the corner which means our days will be much longer, the temperatures much warmer and our moods a whole lot happier now that the long, cold winter days and nights are over. With that said, spring is an ideal time to think about opening your swimming pool. Preparing your pool for all your fun summer swimming and games is actually quite an easy task to perform if you know just what you need to do beforehand.

If you are like so many other pool owners, however, who prefer to leave the pool opening, cleaning and routine maintenance to the professionals then surely you have come to the right place. The professionals here at Sapphire Pools and Spas are highly experienced in all types of pool services and are eager to provide all our valued clients with all their swimming pool needs. Opening your pool and preparing it for the swimming season is the first important step to enjoying summer pool swimming and activities with family and friends.

Steps Required When Opening your Swimming Pool

To begin with, you obviously need to remove your pool cover. After the long hard winter months your pool cover is in need of a thorough cleaning since it is more than likely covered with dirt, debris and other standing water that has accumulated over the winter months. It is important to remove the standing water with a pump and then give focus to the leaves, dirt, debris and other materials that are present. Once you have fully cleaned your cover, then you can remove it, and lay it out in the direct sunlight to allow it to completely dry before you fold it up and store it away until winter season rolls around again.

Next, you need to inspect your swimming pool to make certain that no damage occurred during the winter months. If you find any damage has occurred then now is the time to address any necessary repairs. Again, the professionals here at Sapphire Pools and Spas are here to provide you with all your swimming pool repair needs in timelines that are accommodating to your needs and at prices that you can truly afford.

Once repairs have been finalized then it is time to fill your swimming pool to the proper water level and vacuum it giving much attention to the floors, walls, and your pool steps. You want to be certain that your pool is thoroughly cleaned so that when you add your chemicals they will be able to work more efficiently and effectively. Yet again, we remind you that our highly experienced technicians are here to assist you with the opening or your pool and with your swimming pool preparation for the summer months ahead.

Finally, when opening your pool, after you have completed the steps above, it is time to add the appropriate chemicals to the water and balance your swimming pool water accordingly. Testing of your pool water is important, including testing for pH, alkalinity and calcium in your water. When adding the chemicals to the water and ensuring that the water is balanced properly, which, once again our expert teams can take care of for you, then it is time to chlorinate your swimming pool water accordingly.

Our technicians will perform further testing of your water to ensure that your water is at adequate chlorine levels. Once this is confirmed we will then shock your pool and add sufficient doses of algaecide and pool care pills. These simple steps will surely make opening your swimming pool a whole lot faster and easier should you choose to perform the task yourself and are indeed typical tasks performed by the expert technicians here at Sapphire Pools and Spas when providing these pool services to all our valued clients.

If you are looking to hire a professional pool service company to get your pool opened and operational this year, then take a moment now to give a call out to our qualified team of swimming pool technicians. We are ready, willing and able to take care of all your swimming pool needs all season long and look forward to the opportunity to serve you. From opening your pool and cleaning your pool, to performing necessary repairs and routine maintenance of your swimming pool all season long, the friendly and professional technicians here at Sapphire Pools and Spas can surely handle it all.

How to Reduce Pool Pump Energy Usage

BY: Sapphire Pools of Texas / 0 COMMENTS / CATEGORIES: Pool, Pool Maintenance, Pool Pumps

In today’s world so many people give focus on the environment and saving energy. With that said, pool owners are no exception. Your pool pump can certainly be a tremendous energy waster, especially if they are not equipped with the proper sized pool pump motor, or when the pump is allowed to run too long during the course of each day, or if the water is not either sanitized or balanced properly. Make sure your Pool Pump Energy Usage is being maintained at an appropriate level. There are a variety of steps you can take in your efforts. The goal is to make your pool more eco-friendly while saving on electricity, money and energy. First and foremost, it makes perfect sense to install a new energy efficient pool pump which is sure to reduce the amount of energy your pool pump uses. In addition, to an energy efficient pool pump, there are a few additional ways you can surely reduce the amount of energy that is consumed by your pool pump.

Ways to Reduce Energy Used by your Pool Pump

Another practical means of reducing pool pump energy is by simply running the pump only when it is absolutely necessary. Though it is mandatory to run the pump for a sufficient amount of time in order to keep your water composition balanced and in good, healthy condition, pool owners should perform their own testing or experimenting to determine just how much time you actually need to run your pump to keep your pool clean, clear and safe.

Another practical way of reducing energy used is for pool owners to invest in a variable speed pump. Variable speed pumps actually use lower speeds which, in turn, use less energy and can actually reduce energy consumption by as much as 50-70%. Though these specialized variable speed pool pumps cost more, over time you will definitely enjoy an attractive payback. Further, the motors on these variable speed pumps are quiet and cool permanent magnet motors, with a life expectancy that is far greater than that of traditional pool pump motors as well.

Using a bigger filter will also contribute to reduced energy. A larger filter tends to be more efficient and effective at trapping dirt and at contributing to less filter pump run time.   With a greater dirt trapping capability, and less resistance than smaller filters, the use of a large filter means much less work for the pool pump to have to perform when pushing the water through the filter.

Finally, the professionals here at Sapphire Pools and Spas recommend our valued clients also invest in energy efficient pool pump motors. Most pool pumps that come along with your pool come equipped with typical, standard motors. If you change your standard motor to an energy efficient motor you could reduce the amount of amp draw by as much as 25% thus contributing to energy efficiency. The innovative design concepts, development and specialized materials that are used in top of the line energy efficient pool motors contribute greatly to their efficiency and their overall effectiveness.
These are a few suggestions on how to reduce the amount of energy your pool pump is using. If you have further questions about your pool pump, or any of your pool equipment, contact the technicians here at Sapphire Pools and Spas. We are here to answer all your questions, and offer you informative data and insight on how best to maintain your pool as well as how to turn your pool into an energy efficient back yard source of entertainment. Give us a shout today. We look forward to serving all our valued clients and, don’t forget, if you are in need of any type of pool services, repairs or maintenance plans, we are the ideal team for you!!

BY: Sapphire Pools of Texas / 0 COMMENTS / CATEGORIES: Pool Maintenance

Pool owners need to be concerned about ongoing safety and pool maintenance of their swimming pools. Both pool maintenance and pool safety play an important role in not only the overall appearance and value of your pool, but in the life expectancy and the safety of your pool as well. Pool owners want to keep their pools clean, safe and healthy for swimming at all times, but surely this important task takes a great deal of time, effort, chemicals and equipment.

Here at Sapphire Pools and Spas our licensed and certified technicians are highly skilled and experienced in handling and working with pool chemicals and equipment. They use their high levels of expertise to combat any dangers or problems that may be present and are very knowledgeable when it comes to potential hidden dangers that can exist in your swimming pool that can cause health concerns for your family and friends.

We take into consider the many potential substances or situations that can cause concern for pool owners from muriatic acid and chlorine content to vacuum ports, drain suction and even exposed wires or GFCI outlets. We are committed and dedicated to providing all our valued clients with our top of the line pool services as well as our methods and techniques for performing safety pool repairs that are necessary to maintain the overall structure and health of your pool.

The risks and potential dangers are varied for pool owners. Muriatic acid, for instance, is highly corrosive and can cause serious harm if it comes into contact with your skin or if it is inhaled. The proper use of this substance is essential to the safety and well-being of all you and all your swimming pool guests.

Chlorine is also a powerful substance that can present quite a few dangers as well. You never want to inhale the fumes of chlorine or allow it to get into your eyes or your mouth. Proper levels of chlorine in your pool water are essential to your health and safety as well. In addition, it is important to take safety steps when storing your chemicals as well, making certain that any storage area you have is well ventilated and that chemicals are not stored anywhere near to a heat source.

The professionals here at Sapphire Pools and Spas also want our clients to be aware of the importance of a properly functioning main drain suction system. One of our gravest concerns is that pool owners do not recognize the need for a drain cover so as to prevent anyone from covering the suction drain and becoming trapped under the water. Our teams will inspect your covers, if you already have them in use, and make certain that they are not outdated or worn out. As a pool owner, we want you to be aware of the importance of an updated drain cover and are here to assist with these specialized needs as well.

Further pool repairs we can assist with include the maintenance of your vacuum ports. These ports are typically located in your skimmer basket or on the wall of your pool and can present with similar dangers as those of your main drain suction system.

Finally, when we come out to your home to perform maintenance or pool repairs we dedicate focus to the GFCI outlets and any electrical wires nearby. Your pool system runs on electricity as we all know, and because your pool is intended to be a delightful source for entertainment we want to be certain that there are no dangers or hazards with regard to your pool set up. We will confirm that any outlets you have by your pool are GFCI outlets which serve to trip and cut power when and if a line is ever exposed to water. When we are performing repairs to your pool or pool system, our technicians will cut the power to the pool until all repairs are completed. While performing any repair or maintenance to your pool, we will confirm that all wires are properly insulated and in good shape as well.

Your pool is intended to be a place of fun, relaxation and entertainment which is why the professionals here at Sapphire Pools and Spas want to be certain to remove any risks that may be present. Our technicians are trained to handle all types of situations with all types of pools, and are committed and dedicated to keeping your pool water clear, clean, safe and healthy. Contact us for all your pool repairs and pool maintenance needs. We look forward to serving you today and every day.

In Ground and Above Ground Swimming Pool Equipment

BY: Sapphire Pools of Texas / 0 COMMENTS / CATEGORIES: Pool

Many pool owners often find themselves faced with confusing issues about swimming pool equipment. Often the issue is whether or not, when buying expensive swimming pool equipment, the equipment is interchangeable. The primary difference between in ground and above ground pool equipment is basically size. In ground pool equipment is developed to handle much larger volumes of water at much higher flow rates than that of above ground equipment. Another obvious difference between the two is most definitely price. Above ground swimming pool equipment is much lower than that of in ground equipment.

The most common categories for swimming pool equipment are pumps, filters, and pool cleaners. The folks here at Sapphire Pools and Spas are committed to providing all our valued clients with quality services and products, and that includes insight we can afford them on various swimming pool products and equipment to help with their everyday maintenance and care of their pools. With that said we offer the following comparisons of in ground and above ground pool equipment.

Pool Pumps – the primary difference between the in ground (IG) and above ground (AG) pumps is that the in ground is a self priming pump where the above ground is not. A second difference is that of flow rate. AG pumps are designed and developed to produce flow rates of 30 to 60 gpm where the IG pump produces near to 75-150 gpm and both pumps should turn over all of the water every 8-10 hours. Therefore, it is possible to use an AG pool pump on an IG pool so long as the pump is at or below the pool’s water level and is able to turn over all the water in the 8-10 hours necessary.

Pool Filters – the main difference again is in the size. It is important that your pool filter be properly sized for your pool and to your pump flow rate as well. When thinking about size it is always better to have a pool filter that is over sized rather than one that is undersized. With this, again, it is okay to use an AG filter on an IG pool so long as it is matched in size to the pool’s pump and can produce a sufficient flow rate to turn over the water in the required 8-10 hours.

Pool Cleaners – Above ground pool cleaners have no need to climb the walls of the pool, or even to navigate about complex curves, deep ends or steps where the in ground cleaner must be able to accomplish these tasks. AG cleaners, whether suction or pressure pool cleaners, are of a simpler design with shorter hoses and cords since they are made to operate with less of a water flow where the in ground cleaners are a bit more complicated. In addition, there are robotic cleaners available for both styles of pools, but surely the AG models are less powerful than the IG models. There really is no major issue with using an AG cleaner on an IG pool except for the fact that it won’t be able to climb the walls and may get stuck in the deep end because it lacks enough power. So if you wanted to use an AG cleaner with an IG pool you can but the overall results will not be the same.

Basically, all swimming pool equipment has a design flow rate, and pushing too much water, too quickly through the equipment can cause it to break and not perform as well as needed. In addition, it is important to recognize that typically all swimming pool equipment comes with some type of warranty and if you are not using it properly or in a properly sized pool any warranty claims you may file will probably be denied.

If you are in need of any type of pool maintenance, or perhaps you are looking to contract a team of professional pool technicians to implement a routine pool maintenance program for you and take care of all your cleaning and maintenance needs, then surely the professionals here at Sapphire Pools and Spas are the ideal team for you. Give a shout out to us today and let us put an appropriate pool maintenance service program in place for you. Why waste valuable time maintaining your pool when we can do it for you?
